Minimalist 160-Square-Foot Tiny Home Is A Cozy Escape From Hectic City Life

Harvard student startup Getaway has launched its third rental micro-home ‘Clara’ following its previous projects ‘Lorraine’ and ‘Ovida’.

The 160-square-foot abode, designed by Wyatt Komarin, Addison Godine and Rachel Moranis, is located two hours north of Boston, nestled in a beautiful wooded landscape.

For US$99 night, visitors can rent a stay and trial tiny house living. ‘Clara’ sleeps up to four persons and is equipped with a heater, a two-burner kitchen stove, shower, electric toilet, sink, cooler, utensils, cooking equipment, a twin-sized bunk as well as a twin-sized sleeping pad.

In contrast to the structure’s dark façade that helps it blend with its surroundings, the house’s interior takes on a bright, clean and simple vibe with untreated wood. Windows of varying sizes scattered throughout the house welcomes natural light into its interiors.

The Biggest Pet Peeves Of Typography Lovers

“Dumb” quotes passing off as “smart” ones.

Creative Market has put together this list, titled ‘10 Things Type Lovers Freaking Hate With A Passion’, that most type lovers would probably identify with.

After all, letters are meant to be respectably arranged to communicate a message effectively, but there are some who simply do not understand the conventions of good typography.

The use of stretched, warped type.

Typefaces are designed to have optimal legibility, and should not be narrowed or stretched artificially. This would result in horizontal strokes becoming thicker or thinner than the vertical ones, making them look non-uniform.

It is even worse to be told that type has not been warped, as designers have eyes keen enough to tell.

Type that “simply doesn’t feel loved”.

White space around type is just as important as type itself. Poor planning results in type that “simply doesn’t feel loved”—such as not having ample breathing room, or being abruptly cut off.

Simple measurements of the design canvas would tell you to better resize your type or include more thoughtful line breaks, to create more white space.

“Dumb” quotes passing off as “smart” ones.

It is imperative to know the difference between straight “dumb” quotation marks (“) and curly “smart” ones (“”). Typically, dumb quotes are used when dealing with code like HTML, while smart quotes are used for professional writing.

Dumb quotes are the default option on most of our keyboards, and it gets tricky when some fonts do not have both characters available. Thankfully, most word processors will automatically replace dumb quotes with smart ones.

As part of her geeky cooking show ‘Nerdy Nummies’, she teaches us how to whip up deliciously cute cake pops featuring BB-8 from the latest Star Wars movie.

Her simple recipe features an orange-infused pound cake, much akin to the color and personality of the zesty little droid. The cake crumbs are then shaped into balls, covered with candy frosting, and topped with a white licorice for the droid’s head.
